How an invented season decides who goes through

Who goes through from the groups

The invented Harbour Cup starts with 3 groups of four. Each team plays the others once. The top two in each group go through, and so do the best two of the three third-placed teams: 8 quarter-finalists in all.

Comparing teams from different groups

2Maroon FCGroup C3+14Through
3Pearl FCGroup A304Out

The three third-placed teams, compared by points, then goal difference, then goals scored.

Maroon FC and Pearl FC both have 3 points. Goal difference separates them: +1 against 0, so Maroon FC takes the last place in the quarter-finals.

Comparing teams across groups is only fair if the groups are the same size and play the same number of matches, which they do here.

How the quarter-finals were drawn

The invented draw rule: Group A winner v the second-best third-placed team, Group B winner v Group A runner-up, Group C winner v the best third-placed team, Group B runner-up v Group C runner-up. The resulting ties are on the bracket.
