How an invented season decides who goes through

Stage 1 · League

Points first, then the tie-breakers

The invented Sunset League has 6 teams who play each other home and away: 30 matches. A win is worth 3 points, a draw 1. When teams finish level on points, the order of the tie-breakers decides who finishes higher.

Crimson FC and Amber FC, level on 17 points

  1. Both finished on 17 points with a goal difference of +4.
  2. Rule order A goes on to goals scored: Crimson FC 17, Amber FC 15, so Crimson FC finishes higher.
  3. Rule order B looks at the two teams' matches against each other first: Amber FC 1–0 Crimson FC; Crimson FC 1–1 Amber FC. That gives Amber FC 4 head-to-head points and Crimson FC 1, so Amber FC finishes higher.
  4. Same results, same points, a different second place: the rule order is part of the result.
